BOAO Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018 held during Apr. 8-11, 2018 in Hainan Province, China.
As announced by the Bureau of Energy, a cooperation agreement will be signed between CPC Co. and Taiwan Power (Taipower) on 21st March. The exploration of the geothermal potential zone in Renze Township will be kicked off. When the potential has been recognized, Taiwan Power would continue the development of power plant.
After a series of geological assessment, CPC decided to drill one to two wells with Taipower for test. They will take around 6 months to evaluate before expanding the project. This is the procedure only takes time because the area actually belongs to the Forestry Bureau which means no any action needed for acquiring the land from private owners. Furthermore, the water quality in Renze is colorless and tasteless carbonated spring. This also provides higher efficiency during future power generation than the water with acid.
Except Renze, Taipower also kicks off a geothermal project in Green Island, a small island off the coast of Taitung. A 200 KW power generator will be deployed by the end of 2019 and a power plant with 40 MW capability in 2020.
